Betty Jean Cox, age 77, of New Philadelphia passed away Friday morning, November 5, 2010 in her home following a period of declining health.Born in Millfield, O. on November 27, 1932, she was the daughter of the late James and Minnie (Ross) Mackie, Sr. After finishing her formal education, Betty worked for 7 years as an assembler for RCA. On June 14, 1958 in Cambridge, O., Betty married her husband, John W. Cox of New Philadelphia. Together, they were members of the Dover congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.Throughout her lifetime, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and wife. She enjoyed traveling and listening to music. She also had a wonderful sense of humor. Her family includes her children, Mary (Vic) Beckley, Jr. of New Philadelphia, Carol Cox of Newcomerstown, Rebecca (John) McCabe of Dover, Dennis (Debbie) Cox of Marysville, O., and Tim (Jo) Cox of Cambridge; and her grandchildren, Eric Beckley, Daniel Cox, and Devin Cox.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James, John, Bill and Dave Mackie.Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Sunday, November 7, 2010 from 3 to 6 p.m. A service celebrating her life will be held in the funeral home on Monday, November 8 beginning at 1 p.m. with Elder Don Zeger leading her service.
