Betty Elizabeth Bose

February 8, 1918 — May 11, 2007

Betty Elizabeth Bose, age 89, of Strasburg, entered her heavenly home Friday morning, May 11, 2007, in Park Village at Dover. Born February 8, 1918, Betty was the daughter of the late Clyde and Anna Shoup Bash. She was a 1936 graduate of Navarre High School, and as a young woman enjoyed swimming, jumping off the high dive and playing basketball. She earned the nickname of “Dead-eye” for her accurate shots. In the 1940’s, Betty worked for Nickles Bakery in Navarre and retired from the Dundee Post Office in 1981 after more than 20 years of service. Betty was a longtime member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church at Beach City, and a member of a card club, which she and her husband participated in for more than 65 years. Betty was grieving the recent loss of her husband, John, who passed away on February 27. They had just observed their 70th wedding anniversary on February 13.To say we were blessed to have her as a mother and grandmother is an understatement. She was a devoted wife and mother who dearly loved her family. She was a best friend to her daughters who will miss her terribly. She considered her three sons-in-law as the sons she never had, and they adored her as well. Her selfless, caring nature was evident in everything she did, and helping her family took top priority. Many times, there would be a “care package” left on a family member’s doorstep with items she thought might be needed. She spent countless hours babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren which was such a joy to her. She was noted for giving all the girls home perms over the years, and always had a smiling face and listening ear. She was interested in every aspect of her family member’s lives, but never wanted attention drawn to herself.Prior to her failing health, Betty also enjoyed working outdoors in her flower gardens, mowing the yard and feeding the birds.Betty is survived by her three daughters, Sandra (Duane) Immel of Dundee, Linda (Charles) Davis and Sherri (Terry) Garber, both of Strasburg. Betty will be sadly missed by nine grandchildren, Connie (Bill) Ray of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Janine (Michael) Flood of Granville, Ohio, Lynne (Matt) Johnson, Todd (Cathy) Immel of Dundee, Laura (Sam) Sulzener of New Philadelphia, Gregory (Amy) Davis of Strasburg, Sharon (Wes) Hostetler of Strasburg, Mandy (Trevor) Klar of Dover, and Jake (Fiancé Erika Jasper) Garber of Columbus. Sixteen great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and her brother, Ray Bash of Dover, complete the family. Betty also anticipated the birth of another great-grandchild.In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Bose was preceded in death by a grandson, Richard C. Immel, and her brother, Bob Bash.Betty leaves a legacy of love that will never be forgotten by her family and friends.Pastor David Craig and the Pastor Steven Court will co-officiate a private family service Monday in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover with interment in Dundee Cemetery. In accordance with Betty’s wishes, there are no public calling hours. The Bose family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 230 West Main Street, Beach City, Ohio, 44608. Arrangements are through the care and direction of the Geib Funeral Center at Dover.
