Bette Ann Tarleton, age 65, of Dennison died peacefully Thursday, May 29, 2008, surrounded by her loving family.Born at Council Bluffs, Iowa on September 17, 1942, Bette was a daughter to Rosetta Strohbehn Ballard and the late Quinton Ballard.She was a 1960 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School at Charleston, West Virginia and soon enrolled in the Women’s Army Corps.On June 19, 1962, Bette married John D. Tarleton and together the couple shared nearly 46 years of marriage.She was a loving wife and mother who had a sentimental heart. Bette kept close track of her grandchildren’s sporting activities and delighted in looking for their accomplishments in the sports section of the newspaper.Bette was a fan of many television programs that included The Golden Girls, I Love Lucy, The Andy Griffith Show and the television network Lifetime. Her favorite program, however, was Little House on the Prairie and even through her illness enjoyed watching the show faithfully.She was a quiet and private person by nature but would never pass up the opportunity to spend time with her extended family and close friends to enjoy an outdoor picnic or barbecue.While Bette spent most of her life as a homemaker, at age 50 she went to work for Express Packaging and worked there until her retirement at age 62.In addition to her mother, Rosetta Ballard, of Nitro, West Virginia, and husband, John, she is survived by a son, John B. “Hunk” Tarleton and his wife, Jeannie of Newport; two daughters, Amy Lynn of Freeport, and Jessica Tarleton of the home.A sister, Marcia Mullins of Hurricane, West Virginia; six grandchildren Kaleb and Markie Tarleton, Dallas and Hannah Lynn, Kody Murphy, and Kari Galigher and her husband, Jason; two great-grandchildren, Mylie and Gaige Galigher; and two nieces, Tara Chapman of Charlotte, North Carolina and Lisa Edwards of San Antonio, Texas complete the family.Following her passing, Pastor Florence McNutt held a remembrance service in the family home. In keeping with Bette’s wishes, her body has been cremated through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.Those wishing to express condolences to the family are invited to sign the online guest registry.
