Benjamin Wayne Hamlin, 92, of New Philadelphia, entered into eternal life on Monday, June 25, 2007 in Country Club Retirement Campus at Dover. A son of the late William David and Nellie Augusta (Pryor) Hamlin, Ben was born March 12, 1915 at Portage County, Ohio.In his younger years, Ben enjoyed farming and in his later years he pursued a career as a car salesman. However, his love of animals and especially horses never left him. Ben also enjoyed the simple things in life such as car rides through the country side with his children and grandchildren and he always preferred a picnic lunch over fast food. Ben was also a great story teller and he was always delighted when others would mistake him for Walter Matthau.Ben was preceded in death by his first wife, Bessie Elizabeth Kessler and he later married Beulah Mildred Lorenz who survives. He is also survived by his children, Ruth Ann (William) Knecht of Dover, Mary Lee (Abe) Crumbliss of Apopka, Florida, Terry Lee (Darlene) Hamlin of New Philadelphia and Dorothy Chesia of Orlando, Florida; daughter-in-law Maxine Hamlin and her companion Don Powelson of Baltic; grandchildren, Alan Wayne (Michele) Boreman, Christine Ramsey and her companion Bryan Aubihl, Terry Lynn (Myra) Hamlin, Michele (Troy) Wright, Elizabeth (Scot) Haver, Tina (Mick) Hunt, Eric (Sherrie) Leiter, Carl (Jackie) Leiter, Bryan (Stephanie) Leiter, Kenny (Sarah) Hamlin, Ben (Tiffaney) Hamlin, Kayla Hamlin, Lonnie (Rita) Chesia, William (Julie) Knecht, Tina Shrump and her companion Dave Barrick and Jeff Knecht; 38 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Ben will be missed by all who knew and loved him.He was preceded in death by an infant son, Benjamin Wayne; a son, Roger Alan Hamlin; sisters, Ruth and Florence and brothers, Jim, Carl, Glenn and WalterFamily and friends may call on Friday, June 29, 2007 from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Ben’s life will follow at 4 p.m. with Elder Glenn Carlisle officiating. Following the service, cremation will take place and inurnment will be held in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at a later date.Memorial contributions may be made in Benjamin’s honor to the American Cancer Society, 201-A West Ohio Avenue, Dover, OH 44622.
