Beatrice R. Cercone, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, January 9, 2004, at the Country Club Retirement Center in Dover. Her death came on the same date on which her husband, Donald “Gandy” Cercone had died in l966. Beatrice was 96 years old.Born in Roswell on February 7, l907, she was the daughter of and the last of eleven children born to the late John and Angela Pompi Pompey.Beatrice devoted her life to her family and to her church. She was member of Sacred Heart Church in New Philadelphia and a member of the church Alter Society.She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Coutts, and a son, Albert (Twila) Cercone, all of New Philadelphia; eight grandchildren, Michael “Mick” (Carol) Coutts of New Philadelphia, Don (Dee Dee) Coutts of New Philadelphia, Chris (Lisa) Coutts of Solon, Cathy Conner of Florida, Rita (Ron) Richardson of Sugarcreek, Pam (Jim) May of Bolivar, Barb Cercone of New Philadelphia, and Donna (David) Furbay of New Philadelphia; fourteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, eight brothers, and two sisters.Friends may call on the family at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia on Monday evening, January 12, 2004, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A Christian Wake will held at 7:30 pm. Following prayers at the funeral home, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Msgr. George J. Schlegel at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at Sacred Heart Church in New Philadelphia. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, where Beatrice will be laid to rest next to her husband. Friends and family are invited to a reception in St. Ambrose Hall following the committal.The family requests that memorial contributions in Beatrice’s honor be made to Sacred Heart Church, 139 Third Street NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
