Beatrice G. Emery, age 73, of New Philadelphia, passed away early Friday morning, September 7, 2012, in Union Hospital.
Born at Carrollton, June 15, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Sherman and Ethel Earl Moreland.
Beatrice retired in 2001 as the assistant to the executive director for Harbor House, our community’s domestic violence shelter, and had worked in that capacity for more than a decade.
She was a loving mother and grandmother, who enjoyed gathering with her friends to work on crafts. In her earlier years, Beatrice was well known in square dance groups, and was a former member of the NuHall Squaredancers. She also attended the Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
On February 8, 1960, she wed Wayne R. Emery. The couple observed thirty years together before his death on October 13, 1990.
Survivors include her sons and daughters; Jack (Darlene) Walters of Gillette, Wyoming, Vicki (John) Lehigh of Dover, Wayne Emery Jr. (his companion, Tipa Mahek) of Hampton, Virginia, Lisa (Jay) Schwartz and Michael Emery, both of New Philadelphia.
Eight grandchildren; Kristi (Steve) Amos of Wainwright, Steven and Rachel Walters, of New Philadelphia, Brandon (fiancee Staci Colvin) of Cleveland, and Emily Walters of Gillette, Wyoming, Stacy and Kelly Lehigh of Dover and Heather and Phillip Schwartz of New Philadelphia and three great-grandchildren also survive.
A brother, Carl (Polly) Moreland of Canton, and numerous nieces and nephews, complete the family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Beatrice is preceded in death by her sisters Ida Fox and Ethel Meir and brothers; Russell Piper, Edward Piper and Sherman Moreland, and an infant brother, Eugene Moreland.
Friends are invited to call Monday from 4-7PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
The Rev. Stephen L. Patrick will lead Mrs. Emery’s funeral service Tuesday morning at 10:30 in the funeral home’s chapel.
Burial will follow alongside her husband in New Philadelphia’s Evergreen Burial Park.
