Barbara A. Reese

Barbara Ann Reese, 90, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, died on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at the Hennis Care Center (Dover), where she was residing and getting care.

Barb was born on January 8, 1935, and was a life-long resident of New Philadelphia, Ohio. Her parents were the late Lucille (Laird) Major and Frank Major.

Barb was a 1953 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. As a senior, she was President of the student body, and she was also elected as Rose Queen, a Lions Club program. In her later years, Barb enjoyed getting together frequently with a group of the ’53 Ladies for lunch and talk.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia for many years, and in recent years, she attended the Otterbein United Methodist Church.

Barb married James (Jim) Reese on March 19, 1955, and they resided in the New Philadelphia area for their entire 63 years of marriage (Jim passed away in 2018).

Barb is survived by a daughter Jamie (Ken) Miller of Fayetteville, Georgia; a son Brad (Cheryl) Reese of Pomeroy, Ohio; grand-daughters Kellie McCormick of McDonough, Georgia, Kerry (Jeff) Kisor of Pomeroy, Ohio, and Kelly (Larry) Bartlett of Albany, Ohio; great grand-daughters Laken Bartlett and Kenna Kisor of Pomeroy, Ohio; sisters-in-law Nancy Reese and Salli White, and several nieces and nephews. Barb was preceded in death by her older sister Rev. G. Marlene Peterson. Barb’s long-time companion dog, CoCo, passed away only a few months ago.

Barb enjoyed attending many of the athletic, scholastic, and extracurricular activities of her children, while they were in school. As a young family, they enjoyed short camping stays at Atwood Lake. And in later years, Barb and Jim maintained a camper at Atwood for the entire summer. Barb enjoyed playing golf with friends at local courses, and maintaining her small flower gardens. She also loved to sew and do crafts. Her favorite sports teams were the Akron Zips, the OSU Buckeyes, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Barb worked at the Goshen Dairy in her early years. She was a longtime employee of Buehler’s Market in New Philadelphia, at both the old store and the current.
