Barbara Patricia Hilderbrand of Toronto and Dover, Ohio, died peacefully early Wednesday, November 28, 2012 in Union Hospital at Dover following a brief illness.
Born on June 27, 1943, at New Cumberland, West Virginia, She was a daughter of the late Michael and Elaine (Evans) Comer.
Her friends and family knew her by a number of different names; such as Barb, Pat, and even Patty. But no matter what name she answered to, those who knew her would say she was a kind, outgoing, caring, and loving person who selflessly gave of her time and talents for others.
Barb grew up in New Cumberland, West Virginia and upon graduation moved to the Steubenville, Ohio area to attend classes at the Ohio Valley School of Nursing. Upon graduation from the nursing program she obtained her RN status and ultimately worked for Bolger’s Country Club Manor of Steubenville where for more than two decades she worked as the midnight shift charge nurse.
On September, 17, 1967 at Steubenville, Barb married the love of her life, Everett “Sonny” Hilderbrand and together raised one son. As a couple, Barb and Sonny were inseparable. They loved being together as they socialized with friends at area clubs and organization in which they held membership. Most of all, they loved to travel, often taking extended month long vacations to Myrtle Beach and throughout the years, made many trips to Busch Gardens of Williamsburg, Virginia.
Barb found the most joy in volunteering her time in different ways. She was very involved with numerous fund raising and charity events that were held at the clubs and was most passionate about any event which was Veteran oriented. When not volunteering, Barb had a true passion for fishing. She also enjoyed canning many of the goods produced from the garden she and Sonny kept; quite often, giving most of the surplus supply to friends and neighbors.
In addition to her husband of 45, years, Barb is survived by a son, Vincent “Casey” (wife, Kathy) Hilderbrand of New Philadelphia; a brother, Michael(wife Joyce) Comer of New Cumberland, WV; two nephews, Mike and Matt Comer; a niece, Laura Comer-Huehn; an “adopted” son, Randy Wedlake of Toronto, Oh and last but not least, her beloved Pug, Lady.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 2, 2012 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where Pastor Brian Flood will lead a service celebrating Barb’s life on Monday at 10:30 AM. Following services, all are invited to share in a meal and fellowship in the Hospitality Center located in Dover Funeral Center.
