Barbara M. Kopec Blackstone, age 58, of Scio, died peacefully Wednesday, December 26, 2007, in her home, following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.Barbara was born September 8, 1949, at New Kensington, Pennsylvania, to the late Leonard and Veronica Husar Kopec.A graduate of Salem High School at Salem, Ohio, Barbara later joined the staff of Warren Molded Products at Salem where she met her future husband, Charles “Fred” Blackstone. The couple married on February 4, 1984, in Salem, Ohio. Barbara was well known for her resourcefulness in making crafts and giving them as gifts to others. Best known as a talented sewer, Barbara was passionate about creating beautiful hand crafted quilts. A member of the Piecemakers quilting group and the Valley Quilt Guild, Barbara was also a member of other quilting organizations throughout the United States.Barbara was also an avid reader and a member of the Friends of the Library for the Tuscarawas County Public Library, a volunteer organization which supports activities and events put on by the library. Barbara loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending as much time as possible supporting wildlife causes and being a part of nature in general.In addition to her husband, Fred Blackstone of Scio, Barbara is survived by her daughter, Anna Blackstone of the home; two sisters, Mary Kopec of Stow, Ohio and Martha Kopec of Warren, Ohio; two brothers; George Kopec of Bedford, Ohio and Len Kopec of Helena, Montana. Numerous nieces, nephews and close friends complete the family.The family will receive friends on Friday, December 28, 2007, from 2:00-4:00PM and 6:00-8:00PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Father Martin Ralko will celebrate the Blackstone funeral mass on Saturday, December 29, 2007, at 10:00 AM in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Dennison.Those unable to attend visitation or services may send the family personal condolences by signing the online registry by visiting the funeral home’s website.The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West 3rd Street, Dover, Ohio 44622.
