Barbara J. Schaar, age 73, of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, October 11, 2008 in Country Club Retirement Center at Dover surrounded by her family following a lengthy battle with cancer.Born August 20, 1935 in Dennison, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Kathryn Fellers. Barbara attended Tuscarawas Warwick High School and after she completed her education, she married her late husband, Robert L. Schaar on December 7, 1951. They celebrated nearly 52 years of marriage before his death on October 21, 2003. Barbara lived life to the fullest, enjoying a variety of interests and hobbies. She and a group of friends traveled to concerts weekly at Stan Hewitt Hall. She also had a knack for quilting and shopping, especially at QVC. Other interests included traveling, working in her garden, and collecting Longaberger baskets. Most importantly, she was a proud and active mother and grandmother. Her lifelong membership at Sharon Moravian Church was of great importance to her. There, she enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in Women’s Fellowship and the Ladies Aid groups.Together, Barbara and Bob raised and loved four children, two of whom preceded her in death. William “Bill” Schaar died in 1973 and James “Jim” in 2002. She is survived by her son, Steve (wife, Marge) Schaar of Goshen and her daughter, Sandy (husband, Dan) Fait of New Philadelphia; her daughters-in-law, Pam Schaar Ashleman of Uhrichsville and Sally Snider of Bolivar; grandchildren, Stacey Preciado of North Carolina and Daylenna (husband, Clay) Ketchem of Uhrichsville, Bob (wife, Ashley) Fait of New Philadelphia, Christina Fait of Cincinnati, and Danielle Fait of New Philadelphia, Matthew (wife, Charlotte) Schaar of Fort Braggs, NC and Brian Schaar of Goshen; her great-grandchildren, Abigail Drescher and Marissa and Marcus Allen; and her brothers, Tom (wife, Margie) Fellers and Donald “Dink” (wife, Carrie) Fellers, both of Uhrichsville and William “Bill” Fellers of Tuscarawas. Numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.In addition to her parents, her husband, and her sons, Barbara was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Demattio.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Monday, October 13, 2008 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral celebrating Barbara’s life will be held on Tuesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with The Rev. Michael R. Foran officiating. Burial will follow at Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery. Her church family will host a meal in the church fellowship hall following the committal service.Barbara’s family requests memorial contributions in her memory be directed to the Sharon Moravian Church Organ Fund, P.O.
