Barbara Ann Mitchell, 62, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, June 09, 2013 in her home following a lengthy illness.
A daughter of the late Glenn A. and Barbara E. (Davis) Morgan, Barbara was born August 1, 1950 at Rochester, Pennsylvania.
Barbara graduated from Rochester High School in 1968. Almost one year later on March 30, 1969 she married her true love, Douglas J. Mitchell.
Following their marriage, Doug entered the United States Marine Corps and the couple relocated to southern California. During her time in California, Barbara worked as a teacher’s aide which she was very fond of and enabled her to be close to her son during his school years. After residing for 20 years in California, Barbara and Doug moved to the Tuscarawas County area.
She had a true passion for singing and studied voice in her younger years. Over the years Barbara performed at a variety of events and locally was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Choir and formerly with the Grace Lutheran Church Choir. She also had a love for gardening and landscaping. Barbara had many admirers of her landscaping designs around her home.
Barbara and Doug enjoyed traveling the country together and created many of their best memories together in doing so. She will be remembered for her elegant style and fashion as well as the love she had for her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Doug, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas “Eric” and Stephanie Mitchell of Clive, Iowa and her two grandchildren, Gavin Douglas and Georgia Rae Mitchell.
A brother, Glenn A. (Nancy) Morgan Jr.; a nephew, Nathan Morgan and a great nephew, Noah Morgan all of New Brighton, Pennsylvania complete the family.
In keeping with Barbara’s wishes cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 7 p.m. in Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia with Rev. Stephen L. Patrick officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church.
