B. James “Jim” Fishel, 83, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, September 29, 2008 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.A son of the late James Orin and Ethel Naomi (Stermer) Fishel, Jim was born July 27, 1925 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.Jim was a 1943 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. He then enlisted with the United States Army Corps on November 27, 1943 and served until his honorable discharge on March 25, 1946. Jim retired as a shipping foremen from Miller Studio where he worked for 38 years.He was a life long member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia. He was an avid Ham Radio Operator and he played the tuba in the former New Philadelphia Elks Band.He is survived by his children, Paula (Robert) Freeland of Gnadenhutten, Barbara Kamp of Wooster, Edward J. (Michelle) Fishel of Canton and Eric B. (Paula) Fishel of Alliance; grandchildren, Paulalynn (Mike) Abel of Uhrichsville, Michelle (Jake) Plotts of Midvale, Jimmy Lunsford of Akron, Jason Lunsford of Parma, Edward J. Fishel, Jr. and Heather M. Fishel both of Port Washington, R.J. Fishel of Canton and Ty and Taylor Fishel both of West Virginia; great grandchildren, Keely Freeland and Naomi Potts both of Midvale and Bobby and Mariah Abel both of Uhrichsville; and two sisters, Mary Cummings of South Bend, Indiana and Martha (Robert) Haeberle of New Philadelphia.Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Florence Fishel, whom he married on July 3, 1954; a sister, Ella Fishel and two brothers, Adam and John Fishel.Family and friends may call on Thursday, October 2, 2008 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Jim’s life will be held on Friday, October 3, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia with Pastor Steve Patrick officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia with the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 rendering military honors.The family requests, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Jim’s memory to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622 or to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 202 East High Avenue, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
