Ava Marie DelGallo passed away in her home on Tappan Lake surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 28, 1960, Ava was a daughter of the late John and Norma Scavetti Caracciolo. She and her sister, Adrienne, were thick as thieves growing up, enjoying days spent with family in South Philadelphia, remaining best friends through adulthood.
After high school, Ava took on several modeling jobs and worked as a word processor prior to meeting the love of her life, Joseph H. DelGallo. The couple married on June 4, 1988, and together they raised three sons.
Ava’s life centered around her family, and from the time she was a little girl, she always knew her purpose in life was to be a mother. She was a very giving, loving, energetic soul who would do anything for those she cared about. Her greatest joy and number one priority in life was her children and, when the time came, being a grandmother. She loved spoiling her grandchildren and took full advantage of playtime when the opportunity arose, usually outlasting even the kids’ energy.
Ava’s love of children wasn’t just reserved for her family. For the past 18 years, she devoted her life to the students of Immaculate Conception Elementary School, where she served as secretary. She was a constant advocate for the children and enjoyed telling stories about all of the fun things the kids would do and say.
Ava loved being at the beach. Growing up in Philadelphia allowed her to make countless trips to the Jersey Shore; her family remembers many happy trips to Atlantic City and Wildwood Beach. When she could not make it to the sand, she enjoyed what she called her “oasis away from the ocean,” Tappan Lake, where she made a loving home for herself and her family and spent every spare minute in the water.
Ava’s devoted and unconditional love will be deeply missed by her husband of nearly 35 years, Joseph “Joe” DelGallo; their sons, Joseph A. (Susannah Bender) DelGallo, Christopher (Raven) DelGallo and Nicholas (fiancée Jamie Stowers) DelGallo; her grandchildren, Rylee Belle and Giovanni Joseph; and her sister, Adrienne Bauer.
The family will greet guests on Monday, April 24, 2023, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a Catholic Wake Service will begin at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated by Father TJ Lehigh in the Immaculate Conception Church on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at 2:00 PM. A meal will be held following the Mass. Private burial will take place in Union Cemetery at Steubenville.
Memorial contributions in Ava’s name may be directed to Immaculate Conception Elementary School c/o Immaculate Conception Church, 206 N. 1st St., Dennison, OH 44621. Flowers may be sent to Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia.
