Audrey L. Ashbaugh

May 15, 1930 — June 9, 2018

Audrey Lillian Ashbaugh, age 88, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully, Saturday, June 9, 2018 in New Dawn Retirement Center at Dover following a period of declining health.

Born in the family home in Uhrichsville on May 15, 1930, Audrey was a daughter of the late Charles and Grace (Cox) Chaney.

She attended school at Dover and on September 21, 1948 married the love of her life, Karr Ashbaugh. Early in their marriage, Audrey and Karr had the opportunity to share their love as foster parents; later starting their own family of two sons.

Audrey was a loving mother and grandmother who showed her goodness to all she encountered. For many years she was actively involved with the Pioneer Club through GTE which served as a civic organization to support the youth of the community. She actively helped the club to put on an annual Christmas Party that served underprivileged youth in the area. She was an avid supporter of projects for the former County Home and loved sharing her talents of crafting and crocheting.

For nearly a decade, Audrey and Karr were major contributors as Band Parents with the New Philadelphia Marching Quakers. Audrey helped to tailor and repair uniforms, keep concession stands well stocked and staffed and helped with the band’s annual fruit drive. She loved being “Mom” to many band kids through the years.

One of her main goals in life was to be sure no one ever left her house hungry. She loved spending time from Thanksgiving to Christmas baking countless batches of cookies and sweets. In their retirement, Audrey and Karr loved wintering in their home at Ft. Myers, Florida and sending fresh fruit from their trees back to Ohio to family.

In addition to her husband of nearly 70 years, Audrey will be lovingly missed by her family of two sons, Terry (Debbie) Ashbaugh of New Philadelphia and Jeffrey (Jody) Ashbaugh of Florida; five grandchildren, Yvonne (Donny) Pettitt, Carrie (Jeromy) Hagey, Elizabeth (Roman) McComb, Bradi (Andrew) Henderson, and Tyler Ashbaugh; 15 great grandchildren; her brother, Raymond Chaney and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Audrey was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

The family will greet guests on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from 4-7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Brian Flood will lead a funeral service celebrating Audrey’s life in the funeral home’s chapel on Thursday at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. A meal and fellowship will be shared in the Geib Family Center following services.

Memorial contributions in Audrey’s name may be directed to Community Hosice, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 70 W. Streetsboro St., Hudson, Ohio 44236.
