Arthur L. Ashkettle, 89, of Newcomerstown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2009 in Aultman Hospital at Canton.A son of the late Lynn and Laura (Craigo) Ashkettle, Art was born April 7, 1920 at Crucible, Pennsylvania.After graduating form East Bethlehem High School, Art met and married the love of his life, Kathleen (Vernon) Ashkettle. The couple was married for 67 happy years and together, they raised three sons, Delbert, Phillip and Russell.Art was a veteran of the United States Navy and he served in the South Pacific during World War II. Over the years Art worked for a number of companies, including Larson Clay Pipe, Warner & Swasey and Joy Manufacturing.He enjoyed fishing, camping and rock hunting. Art was also very proud of the tomato plants he raised each year.He is survived by his wife, Kay; three sons, Delbert (Linda) Ashkettle of Dover, Phillip (Sandy) Ashkettle of Bonita Springs, Florida and Russell (Kathy) Ashkettle of West Lafayette; nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a brother, Conrad (Loretta) Ashkettle of Uniontown, Pennsylvania; a sister, Pauline Reese of Bruceton Mills, West Virginia and many nieces, nephews and friends.
