Arthur Carl Heidenreich, age 88, a long time resident of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, August 31, 2011 in Country Club Retirement Center at Dover following a lengthy illness.Born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 2, 1923, Art was the son of the late Clifford and Clara Reimer Heidenreich, and was a 1941 graduate of West Technical High School, in Cleveland, and attended Fenn College. Art retired as the General Manager of Joy Manufacturing on October 1, 1986. He had previously worked with the Warner & Swasey Company for 30 years and with Kysor Industrial Corporation. Art also helped bring Gradall to New Philadelphia, in 1950.He was a Sergeant in the Army Air Corp. during WWII, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Carl C. Stoller Post 1445, and a past member of the American Legion.As an active community leader Art was proud to have served as the Chairman of the Advisory Committee to bring the Kent State University branch campus to Tuscarawas County and serving as the Master of Ceremony at the university’s groundbreaking. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ, at New Philadelphia, the New Philadelphia Elks, the Atwood Yacht Club and a volunteer with Hospice of Tuscarawas County. He was formerly active with the Union Hospital Board of Trustees, New Philadelphia Rotary, Chamber of Commerce and was the United Fund Campaign Chairman, 1967 â?? 1968.He is survived by sons, Tom (Diana) Heidenreich, of New Philadelphia, Jerry (Kathy) Heidenreich, of New Philadelphia and Robert (Laura) Heidenreich, of Mesa, AZ; grandsons, Michael Heidenreich, of Akron, Trevor Heidenreich, of California, Brian Heidenreich, of South Carolina and Travis Heidenreich, of Texas; step grandchildren, Jennifer and Adam Smith, of Florida; ex-daughter-in-law, Lynne Sanderson, of New Philadelphia, with whom he maintained a special relationship; a step son-in-law, John Murphy, of Kettering, OH; sister-in-laws, Doris Meese, of Sugarcreek, and Norma Heidenreich, of Chino Hills, CA and great grandchildren, Abigail, Sophia, Genevieve, Brady, Carly Faith and Kurtis.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former, Mildred Meese; a brother, Clifford Heidenreich; a step daughter, Karen Murphy; a step son, Douglas Smith; a sister-in-law, Ruth Meese and step-granddaughter, Ann Murphy.In accordance with Art’s wishes, his body will be cremated and there will be no viewing. Pastor Jeff Gerber, will officiate at a memorial service on Thursday September 8, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Inurnment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia VFW will perform military honors.
