Arthur Allen Sherrets, 55, of Strasburg, died suddenly Monday morning, May 22, 2006.Born June 26, 1950 in Dover, Ohio, he was a son of the late Arthur Frederick and Isabell Irene (Lawver) Sherrets. After graduating from New Philadelphia High School, he joined the United States Airforce where he honorably served his country for 4 years. While in the service, he learned the heating and cooling trade that prepared him for his professional career. Allen had a wonderful work ethic and enjoyed his career with Elsass Heating & Cooling in Canton for the past 18 years. Prior to his service for Elsass, he worked for Henry Heating & Cooling and also the former Warner & Swasey Company, both in New Philadelphia. Every morning Allen’s alarm clock woke him up in time to join his friends at the Eagle Truck Stop. Together, they drank a cup of coffee and enjoyed one another’s company before beginning their day at work. While his work took top priority throughout his lifetime, he had a genuine passion for his family. Laughter and love filled his house whether he was on the grill making dinner for a family member’s birthday or enjoying one of Ohio’s sporting teams on the television. In addition to his Ohio teams, Allen loved the Dover Tornadoes. Rarely was a football game played at Crater Stadium that he was not in his season ticket seat cheering the Tornadoes on to a victory. Allen also took great pride in manicuring his gardens and yard. He was a member of Jerusalem Church. In 1974, Allen married the love of his life, the former Kathleen Jeanne Tonge, who he met while in the service at Texas. Together, they raised their two children, Jennifer Sherrets of Strasburg and Justin Sherrets of Dover. Along with his immediate family, he will be sadly missed by his siblings, Bonnie (George) Freeland of New Philadelphia, Diann K. Sherrets of Stone Creek, and Rick (Diane) Sherrets of New Philadelphia; Grandma Nellie Sherrets and his cousin, Marlene Sherrets, both of New Philadelphia; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles; his father-in-law, Melvin Tonge of New Mexico; a sister-in-law, Terri (Charles) Massengil and a brother-in-law, Walter Tonge, both of Texas. In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Sue Tonge and numerous aunts and uncles.Visitation will be held (TODAY) Wednesday, May 24, 2006 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 N.
