Arnold “Arnie” Mason Pittman, 80, of New Philadelphia, died suddenly Friday, April 8, 2005, at his home.A son of the late Elma (Pittman) Davy, Arnie was born January 23, 1925 in Berea, Ohio.He attended New Cumberland High School as well as the Otterbein United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia. After 46 years of service, Arnie retired as a supervisor from U.S. Ceramic and Tile Company. He was also the maintenance man and groundskeeper for the Shel-Mar community in New Philadelphia.On April 19, 1943, Arnie enlisted with the United States Army in which he served in the Army-Air force. He served in the American Theatre during World War II. During his service to his country, he was awarded the EAME Ribbon, the American Theatre Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.Arnie was also a member of the Tusco Radio Club having used the call letters of N8HHQ.He is survived by his loving wife, Marie (Kelly) Pittman, whom he married April 2, 1946 in New Philadelphia; two sons, John (Joyal) Pittman of New Philadelphia and Richard (Carole) Pittman of Massillon; two grandsons, John “Chip” (Diana) Pittman of Colorado and Jason (Kim) Pittman of California; one granddaughter, Jenny Ann (Aaron) Tice of New Philadelphia; one great-grandson, Gus Pittman of Colorado; and two half sisters, Darlene Kandel of Stone Creek and Linda Moss of Canton.Arnie was preceded in death by his mother, his grandparents, Jeremiah and Lena Pittman, who were very special to him, and one great-grandson, John C. Pittman.Visitation will be held on Monday, April 11, 2005 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia and again one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Services will be conducted by the Rev. James Taggert on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery where the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 will perform military honors.A reception will be held at the Geib Family Center in New Philadelphia following the committal.Memorial contributions may be made to the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 156 Beaver Avenue, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
