Arline Finton, age 92, of the Stonecreek Valley, New Philadelphia, died peacefully at noon on July 7, 2008, in Country Club Retirement Center at Dover. A resident of the Stonecreek Valley her entire life, Arline was born October 30, 1915, in her family home, not far from where she has resided in her adult life. She was one of three children reared by the late Charles and Naomi Zimmerman Baker. In 1930, while still a student in high school, Arline put aside her educational pursuits to rear her own family when her mother died in a tragic accident. She knew the value of a hard days work and found a perfect companion in a neighboring farmer, Carl Finton. The couple wed August 18, 1936, and this year, would have celebrated their seventy-second wedding anniversary. Carl described Arline as his perfect farmwife. Arline was the matriarch of the family business, known as Carlene Farms, now with four generations of the family involved in its dairy operation. Additionally, Mrs. Finton was active in the former County Homemakers, and was a lifetime member of the Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau, having been a member of the original Council #4. Arline was a member of the Jerusalem Church, and was a former Sunday school teacher there. In addition to her husband of seventy-two years, Carl, of the home, Arline is survived by her son, Cliff and wife Connie Finton, who now lead the operation of the family farm, and three grandchildren; Suzanne and husband J.D. Loy of Azle, Texas, and both Charlie and wife Lisa Finton and Matt and wife Iryna Finton, all residents of Carlene Farms. Six great-grandchildren; Jeffrey Loy, Chris, Kurt and Brittany Finton and Roman and Vladik Zhukov, as well as a niece, Betty and husband John Smith of North Canton, and a nephew, Dr. Paul and wife Rita Hisrich of Canton, also survive. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Finton is preceded in death by her brother, Earl Baker and sister, Melva Hisrich. Friends are invited to call Wednesday, July 9, from 2PM â?? 4PM and from 7PM â?? 9PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Dr. Terry Downin will lead funeral services for Mrs. Finton Thursday morning at 10:30 in Jerusalem Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery and with a reception in the fellowship hall at the conclusion of the committal service. Those unable to attend are invited to share memories and condolences with the family by visiting the funeral home’s website. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Jerusalem Church, 1417, Stonecreek Road SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
