Arlene Wood, 91, of New Philadelphia died Friday, July 22, 2011 in New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover following a period of declining health.A daughter of the late Alonzo and Mary (Edie) Creager, Arlene was born March 23, 1920 at Leesville, Ohio.Arlene was a member of Leesville United Methodist Church as well as a former member of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed being in the outdoors and enjoyed flowers and gardening.She is survived by her children, Linda McCartney of Dennison, Sandra (Orlo) Beckley of New Philadelphia, Bonnie (Larry) Baxter of Uhrichsville and Robert Wood of Millersburg; six grandchildren, Greg (Vivian) McCartney of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, Michelle (Companion, Duane) McCartney of Dover, Jeff Beckley of New Philadelphia, Lisa (Charlie) Finton of New Philadelphia, Lori (Steve) Kelely of New Philadelphia and Brian (Tara) Baxter of Dennison; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Lorna Jean Carpenter and a special family friend, Howard Hartsell of Beach City.Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard Wood who passed away on January 28, 2001; three sisters and one brother.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Arlene’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Burial will follow in Sherrodsville Memory Gardens. Following the committal service, a luncheon will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.Contributions may be made in Arlene’s memory to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622.
