Arlene Mast, 90, formerly of Berlin, and a resident of Walnut Hills Nursing Home for the last twenty years, died peacefully Monday morning August 18, 2003. Born near Walnut Creek on March 18, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Amanda Miller Gerber. Mrs. Mast was a longtime member of the Berlin Mennonite Church. On June 3, 1933, she married Carl F. Mast, who, after forty-three years of marriage, preceded her in death on February 1, 1977. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Mast was employed as Owens Brockway in Berlin for ten years, and had previously worked as a cook at Berlin Grade School. Two daughters survive, Mrs. Roy (Joyce) Swartzentruber, of Sugarcreek, and Mrs. Ivan (Eileen) Stutzman, of Berlin; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Roscoe (Mattie) Miller of Walnut Creek; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Mast; and a brother, Titus Gerber of Sugarcreek. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Mast was preceded in death by a son Loyal; and infant granddaughter; a grandson, Jerry Linn; and a sister, Erdine. Private family graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday morning, August 20, 2003 in Berlin Cemetery. Pastor Ernie Hershberger will officiate a public memorial service in Berlin Mennonite Church at 11:00 Wednesday morning. There are no calling hours.
