Arlene M. Schide

Arlene M. Schide, age 84, a lifelong resident of New Philadelphia, passed away Monday afternoon, October 16, 2006 in Country-Club Retirement Center at Dover. Born in her home at New Philadelphia on Christmas Eve, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Minnie Ruefner Lawrence. Arlene graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1940.On June 28, 1941, she married the late Emmett R. Schide, Jr. The couple observed their 56th wedding anniversary together before his death in February, 1998. Together they enjoyed collecting antiques and operating a booth at the former Dutch Valley Antique Mall. Arlene was a homemaker her entire life, and was much loved by her family. She will be remembered for her excellent cooking by all of those who enjoyed her home-baked Christmas treats. Arlene is survived by her daughter and care-giver, Carol Schide, of New Philadelphia, as well as a son, Howard and his wife Sally Schide of Cohasset, Massachusetts; a brother, Russell and his wife Virginia Lawrence of New Philadelphia, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Arlene was preceded in death by her brothers Bob and Eugene Lawrence and a sister, Naomi McClelland. A private family visitation and service will be held Friday in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Burial, alongside her husband, will follow in Evergreen Burial Park.
