Anthony Segalavich, 82, of Dover, Ohio, died Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in Hennis Care & Retirement Centre at Dover.
A son of the late Antone and Anna Segalavich, Anthony was born July 20, 1931 at McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania.
Anthony graduated from McKees Rocks High School in 1949. He then continued his education at Juniata College graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in 1953. Following his graduation from College Anthony enlisted with the United States Army until he was honorably discharged in 1955.
After completing his military service he returned to Juniata College and served as the Offensive Coordinator for the football team. One of Anthony’s most memorable moments was coaching in the Tangerine Bowl.
Upon completion of his coaching career he went to work for U.S. Steel Lorain Works and then as the owner and operator of the Athletic Club at Newcomerstown, Ohio. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge and he enjoyed woodworking and golfing in his younger years.
He is survived by his wife, Annette (Profant) Segalavich whom he married on August 24, 1957; his children, William Segalavich of Newcomerstown, Ohio and Suzanna (Darrell) Baker of Carrollton, Ohio; a grandson, Darrell Anthony Baker of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother, William (Joanne) Segalavich and a niece, Connie (Ralph) Surman both of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Peter Segalavich and four sisters, Kay Leski, Mary Batista, Anna Frisch and Helen Volsko.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 19, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover and again one hour prior to the service on Friday. A funeral service celebrating Anthony’s life will be held on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. A luncheon will be held in the Hospitality Room in the funeral home following the service. Inurnment with military honors will be held in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at Rittman, Ohio at a later date.
