Anne C. Shanabrook, 82, of Hennis Care Center of Dover, passed away Sunday morning, February 6, 2005, at Union Hospital in Dover.Born March 7, 1922 in New Philadelphia, Anne was a daughter of the late Charles Hurney and Della Bertha (Maurer) Haupert.After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1940, she worked for the state highway department as a bookkeeper. She then married Dale W. Shanabrook who passed away on May 21, 1990. Together they owned and operated Shanabrook Plumbing, where she was the secretary for 28 years before retiring in 1987.When Anne was not working alongside her husband, she kept entertained playing the card game, Bridge, with her friends. She also has a passion for gardening, reading, playing Bingo at Hennis, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, and collecting hummingbird figurines. Caring for her grandchildren when they were young was another special memory of hers. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ, but while a resident at Hennis Care Center, she always looked forward to attending Sunday morning worship in their chapel.Anne will be sadly missed by her two children, Karen Stevens and Allen Dale (Kay) Shanabrook, both of New Philadelphia; and her grandchildren, Kristen Shanabrook, Deana Stevens, and David and Daniel Shanabrook.In addition to her parents and husband, Anne was preceded in death by her sister, Edna.Visitation will be held at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A service celebrating Anne’s life will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home’s chapel with Rev. Jeffrey Gerber officiating followed by burial at East Avenue Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home, following burial, where a meal will be served.
