Anne Alberta “Bertie” Mosshart Havinga, age 86 of Plant City, Florida and formerly of Sherrodsville, Ohio, passed away peacefully Monday morning, October 3, 2011, at Hospice of the Comforter in Orlando, Florida.Born in Dover Township on March 11, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Tablin Grover and Mina (Schilling) Rippel. Bertie graduated from Dover High School in 1942 and soon after was employed there as a secretary. She also worked outside the home as an examiner for the Ohio Highway Patrol, a laborer at GE, and an employee and volunteer at Union Hospital. Bertie also drove bus for Head Start, and assisted on the family Christmas tree farm. Her primary joy in life was in raising her five daughters and being “Grandma”.Bertie was baptized at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dover. Throughout her lifetime she has also worshipped and been a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in New Philadelphia, the Sherrodsville Wesleyan Church, the Nazarene Church in Plant City, Florida. and Sydney Church of God in Sydney, Florida. As an active participant at these churches, Bertie often performed and served as a church soloist and greatly enjoyed singing in their choirs. Bertie will be deeply missed by her children including Jane Mosshart (Dennis) Krumlauf of Orlando, Florida., Marsha Mosshart (David) Lutze of Fairbury, Nebraska, Penny Mosshart (Robert) Shipe of Howard, Ohio, Holly Mosshart (Greg) Renicker of Sherrodsville, Ohio., and Joni Mosshart Rees of Hickory, North Carolina.She is also survived by her husband, Jacob Havinga whom she married September 30, 1995; her grandchildren John, Kristi, Melissa, Jennifer, Jaquie, Keri, Rebecca, Jeremy, Robin, Sarah, Jessica, Derrick, Scott, James, Elizabeth, Aaron, Tanya, Mary, Naomi, and Tricia; and 25 great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents, Bertie was preceded in death by her first husband of 34 years, John Wayne Mosshart on April 18, 1982 and by her siblings Hazel Border Bietl, Arthur Border, Edgar Border, Margaret Rippel Handrich, and William, John, Grover, and Paul Rippel.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Friday, October 7, 2011 from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. A service celebrating Bertie’s life will be held in the funeral home’s chapel on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial next to her husband, John, on the family’s homestead near Sherrodsville, will follow the service. Following the committal/burial service, a meal will be served to family and friends at the Geib Family Center located adjacent to the funeral home.Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Bertie’s memory.
