Anna J. Hunter, 83, of New Philadelphia died Sunday, April 4, 2010 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.A daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Barbat) Strimbu, Anna was born August 5, 1926 at New Philadelphia.Anna graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1945 and then on February 20, 1949 she married Ervin V. Hunter. The couple shared 34 years of marriage prior to Ervin’s passing on September 1, 1983.Anna loved children and for over 20 years she served as a Foster Grandparent for C.O.A.D. The children cherished their time with Anna and especially enjoyed her stories. Prior to that, she worked as a cook at Union Country Club and at O’Brien’s Restaurant.She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia. Anna enjoyed reading and attending auctions and had a true passion for animals.Anna enjoyed the company of good friends and neighbors and very graciously would open her home to comfort and entertain them.Surviving are her five children and their spouses who she adored, Linda Hunter of New Philadelphia, Jim and Mary Hunter of New Philadelphia, Mary and Christopher Jacobs of Mineral City, Chuck and Nancy Hunter of Port Washington and Dave and Barb Hunter of Strasburg; five grandchildren, Tiffany (Matthew) Gerber of Strasburg, Abby (Paul) Martinez of Bowling Green, Sara (Jason) Baker of New Philadelphia, Adam Jacobs of Mineral City and Libby McAbier of Iowa and her great grandchildren, Morgan and Jordan Gerber, Ashley, Faith, Peyton and Tevon Martinez, J.J. and Regan Baker and Stone and Sierra Winkler.A sister, Helen Pompey of New Philadelphia; a sister-in-law, Emma Strimbu of New Philadelphia and a brother-in-law, Edgar Reymond of Florida complete the family.Anna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ervin; two sisters, Nellie Schoelles and Silvia Reymond and a brother, Charles Strimbu.The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Monsignor George Schlegel will lead a Mass of Christian Burial On Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia. Following the service, a memorial reception will be held at the church. In keeping with Anna’s wishes, cremation will follow the services and inurnment will be held at a later date in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.Contributions may be made in Anna’s memory to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, P.O.
