ANNA ELIZABETH UTZ, 91, a long-time resident of New Philadelphia, died Friday afternoon, August 29, 2003, following a lengthy illness. Born in Pittsburgh on September 6, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Frederick W. and Kathryn A. Steinmiller Stemler. Anna was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frederick W. “Freddie” Utz, on February 13, 1984. They were married in Wellsburg, WV on June 15, 1933. The couple founded the Penn Ohio Coal Company and Penn Ohio Transport Company in 1953 and worked side-by-side for many years.Anna was a devoted member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School class and JOY. She was also a member of New Philadelphia Chapter No. 222, Order of the Eastern Star. Anna enjoyed reading and, along with Freddie, enjoyed traveling. She shared her love, devotion and positive attitude with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family: Shirley Yoder of North Canton, Jan & Kenny Lab of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Kenny (Lisa) Lab, Andrew (Wendy) Lab, and Kim (Eric) Jurkovic, all of New Philadelphia; Doug (Tonya) Yoder of Puyallup, WA and Ann Elizabeth (Doug) Scherrer of Arvada, CO; great-grandchildren, Audrey, Fred, and Cole Lab, Samantha and Allison Jurkovic, all of New Philadelphia; Britton, Nolan, Roman and Paris Yoder of Puyallup, WA and Kathryn Scherrer of Arvada, CO; one brother, Ralph (Barbara) Stemler of Myrtle Beach, SC. In addition to her parents and husband, Anna was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.Visitation will be Tuesday, September 2, 2003 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 202 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM. Pastor Michael E. Walters will officiate and burial along side Freddie will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. After the cemetery committal all are welcome to join the family at a reception in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home.Contributions honoring Anna’s life may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
