Anna Dora Patacca, age 90 of Dover, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away in Park Village Healthcare Center at Dover on March 2, 2014 following a period of declining health.
Born in Dover on January 11, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Dominic and Margareta (Pace) Cugliari.
After graduating from St. Joseph High School in 1942, Anna began the most important role throughout her lifetime, that of a wife, mother, and grandmother. She married John J. Patacca on April 24, 1948. Together, they celebrated 49 years of marriage and were blessed with 4 children whom she adored.
Anna’s faith was nurtured in St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was an active member of the Christian Mothers group. She was also an avid Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed playing cards with dear friends and family for more than 30 years.
Anna and John greatly loved traveling to area festivals, especially Italian festivals. Supporting their children and grandchildren’s interests and activities was also very important. Because the Cugliari family was very close, their family reunions were well attended and Anna always looked forward to the gatherings. And, Anna loved sitting on her front porch and engaging in conversation with anyone who joined her there.
When a guest came to Anna’s house, she was also quick to share a piece of candy. Her excellent cooking and baking skills will be missed by many too.
Anna was adored by her loving children including Linda (companion, Jerry Willoughby) Patacca of Dover, John (Pam) Patacca of New Philadelphia, Rick (Tamara) Patacca of New Philadelphia, and Diana (Dave) Williams of Dover; her grandchildren, Shane (Heather) Patacca of Maumee, O., Jon (fiancé, Amber Hart) Patacca of Brooklyn, NY, Ryan (Lacey) Patacca of Uhrichsville; her great-grandchildren, Nolan and Aubrie Patacca, and Caiden and Parker Ann Patacca; her siblings, Frank (Rosalie) Cugliari, Sr., of Dover, Norma (Joseph) Specht of Dover, Marge (Dan) Helmick of Mt. Dora, FL, and Josephine Cugliari of Dover; her brother-in-law, Clare Blauch of Edgewater, FL; her sisters-in-law, Margaret Cugliari of Dover and Jean Patacca of Cleveland; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her husband, John; and her siblings, Victoria (Pete) Alesiano, Theresa Blauch, and Rick Cugliari.
Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service commencing at 7 p.m. Father Jimmy Hatfield will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church on Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at Dover.
