Angeline ”angie” Ferchill

Angeline “Angie” Ferchill, age 98, a longtime resident of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, October 23, 2011, in Park Village Assisted Living Center at Dover following a brief illness. Born at Barnhill, January 10, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Fillipina Valenti Police. Angie was widely known throughout the area for her leadership and community service. She was a founding member of the Sacred Heart Senior Citizen’s Group, and was president of the Loyal Christian Benefit Association at Sacred Heart for more than twenty-five years. Together with other parents of students at St. Joseph High School, she was instrumental in the organization of the St. Joseph Festival. Angie was a member of Sacred Heart’s Altar Society, the Tuscarawas County Democratic Women, and served as a pollworker for the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections for more than twenty-five years. In 2005, she was named Italian-American of the Year by the Tuscarawas County Italian American Festival Committee for her many years of service to the community. At home, Angie was a world-class homemaker. You never knew who would be sitting at her table on a Sunday. Everyone from family members and friends to Bishops to the lonely widow or widower had a place at her table over the decades. She put her talents in the kitchen to work and was known for catering weddings and for decades, Angie was in charge of organizing the funeral meals.On July 30, 1937, Angie married Dominic Ferchill. The couple observed sixty-two years together prior to his passing on January 10, 2000. Together, they reared a family that includes a son and daughter; John (wife, Sharon) Ferchill of Rocky River, Ohio and Phyllis (husband, Bill) Hinkel of Mentor. She’ll be sadly missed by her grandchildren; Melissa Ferchill-Swingos and her husband Nick, Meredith Kempton and her husband Dave, Chris Ferchill, Dr. Julie Hinkel-Orlando and her husband Chris and Pat Hinkel. Eleven great-grandchildren; James, John and Daniel Swingos, Sam, Matthew and Jennifer Kempton, Anthony and Sienna Ferchill, Logan Hinkel and William, Dominic and Rosemary Orlando, also survive. A sister, Milly Ginnetti, of Carlton, Oregon, as well as numerous nieces, nephews cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews who complete the family. In addition to her parents and husband, Angie is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Ann Ferchill, a granddaughter, Jennifer Ferchill, as well as her brothers John, Tom, Anthony, Phillip, Carl, Sammy and Charles Police. Four sisters, Grace DiMarco, Mary Kerschbaumer, Nell Civiello and Ann Civiello are also deceased. Her family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 4 â?? 7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Angie regularly delivered freshly baked Pizzelle’s as a treat for the funeral home staff. Fathers Jeff Coning and Ed Keck will Co-celebrate Mass of Christian Burial Thursday morning at 10 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia. Angie will be laid to rest alongside her beloved Dominic in New Philadelphia’s Calvary Cemetery. Following the committal service, family and friends will gather for a reception in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover.
