Alvin R. Laubscher, 85, of 2331 Ragersville Road SW, Sugarcreek, died Friday, August 29, 2003 at 9:38 AM in Union Hospital at Dover after a brief illness. Born September 14, 1917 in Dow City, Iowa, he was a son of the late Albert & Dolly Malone Laubscher.He retired in 1983 from the Belden Brick Company at Sugarcreek and was also a farmer.Alvin attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Dover and was also a lifetime member of the Baltic Conservation Club.He is survived by his wife the former Dorothy Wiegand whom he married January 3, 1946. Also surviving are two daughters, Rebecca Laubscher of the home and Mrs. Robert (Kathleen) Huprich, Jr. of Sugarcreek. A son, Tim Laubscher of Baltic. Grandchildren Jody (Kenny Brown) Laubscher, Derek Laubscher, Michelle (Troy) Regula, Tanya (Rick) Johnson, Jr. and Adam Huprich. Great Grandchildren Halie Brown, Zoe Johnson and Kallie Regula. Three brothers Lewis (Miriam) Laubscher of Sugarcreek, Robert (Ruth) Laubscher of Mercer, Pa. and Paul (Ethel) Laubscher of Brewster. A step-sister Mrs. Herbert (Phyllis) Hatcher of Dover, and a step-sister-in-law Mary Heid of Dundee. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by a sister Katherine Laubscher, a brother Leroy Laubscher and a step-brother Clayton Heid.Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at 11:00 AM in the Smith-Geib Funeral Home at Sugarcreek. Fr. Bill Arnold will officiate and burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at Dover. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, September 1, 2003 from 5 to 8 PM where Christian Wake services will be held at 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Lung Association or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
