Alvin E. “Al” Lester

Alvin E. “Al” Lester, age 81, of Strasburg, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Friday evening, August 25, 2017 in Mercy Medical Center at Canton following open heart surgery.

Born at Uhrichsville on November 14, 1935, he was the son of the late Albert Cox and Lulu C. (Greenwood) Lester.

Al graduated from Dennison High School and spent more than 40 years working for Republic Steel prior to his retirement.

Al’s faith was nurtured at St. Johns United Church of Christ at Strasburg where he was a devoted member, participating as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. He loved to sing, garden, and most importantly, spend time with and support his children and grandchildren.
Al was also a member of the Pike Grange and the Christian Men’s Business Association.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Jane Miller Andreas of Strasburg whom he married in 1981; his children, Susan (Jeff) Burton of Somerdale, Ron (Gloria) Lester of Bolivar, and David (Audra) Lester of Griffin, Georgia; his step-son, William Andreas of Uhrichsville; his siblings, Kathryn (Gene) Haas, Joe Ann (Larry) McCue, and Roberta Anderegg; his sister-in-law, Sara Lester; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and one expected great-grandchild; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
Al was preceded in passing by his parents; his brothers, Herb and Charles Lester; his sister, Evelyn Decker; and his step-daughter, Rebecca Andreas-Baker.

Friends are invited to call Monday from 4 to 7 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover.

Pastor Jason Rissler will lead a memorial service for Al on Tuesday morning at 11 AM in St. John’s United Church of Christ at Strasburg where a luncheon will follow in the church social hall.
