Alpha Leroy Schwartz, 81, a life resident of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, September 4, 2007, in his residence.He was born June 30, 1926, at New Philadelphia, along with his twin sister, the late Annie Glazier to Soloman E. and Eva Wolfe Schwartz. He attended New Philadelphia schools.Leroy served in Germany during WWII, was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose and a Sunday night bowler. He took an early retirement from Greer Steel, following 37 years of service so he could enjoy his family, gardening, camping, fishing and playing cards and board games with family and friends.He is survived by his son and constant companion of the past 5 years, David Allen Schwartz, of Sherrodsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Eva and Gary Mathias, of Barberton, who kept Leroy company while David worked; a sister, Mrs. Melvin (Josephine) Hostetler, of New Philadelphia; two grandchildren, Jason Mathias, of Barberton and Mrs. Dale (Stephanie) Mainarick, of Akron; three great granddaughters, Rhiannon Mathias, Sydney Mainarick and Shelby Mainarick; two dogs complete Leroy and David’s family.Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 44 years, Sally Mattison Schwartz; his twin sister, Anna Glazier, and his brothers, Soloman, Emmet, George and Phillip.Visitation will be held Friday, September 7, 2007, from 1:00 p.m. till 2:00 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Pastor Fred Battles will conduct a funeral service celebrating Leroy’s life beginning at 2:00 p.m. The New Philadelphia post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will provide military honors at the funeral home immediately following the service and a reception will follow in the Geib Family Center adjacent to the funeral home.Those wishing to view an online memorial or share personal stories about Leroy are invited to visit the funeral home’s website. www.geibfuneral.comMemorial contributions in memory of Leroy may be made to: the Salvation Army, P.O.
