Alma M. Smith, 87, of Stow, formerly of New Philadelphia, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at Akron General Hospital.Alma was born in Uhrichsville, Ohio on January 8, 1918, to the late Frederick A. and Lettie A. (Hayes) Schwab. She was a graduate of the former Uhrichsville High School.Before moving to Stow, she was an active member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia, was a former member of the Lady Elks, and enjoyed bowling and golfing. She was also known as an avid card player.Alma is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Richard) Huff of Hudson; grandson, Brett A. Huff of Stow and his fiancée, Michele Angeletti; great-granddaughter, Taylor A. Polatas of Kent; sister, Betty Arthurs of Uhrichsville; sister-in-law, Marguerite Schwab of North Canton; and brother-in-law, Doyle Kinsey of Uhrichsville.She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles F. Smith, who died March 11, 1985; two sisters, and one brother.Friends may call on the family at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia on Tuesday evening, April 5, 2005, between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m.. Services to celebrate Alma’s life will be conducted by Rev. James Taggart on Wednesday morning, April 6, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Alma will be laid to rest next to her husband in East Avenue Cemetery. Following the committal, family members and friends are invited to a memorial reception at the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home.To honor Alma’s life, memorial contributions may be made to the organization or charity of the donor’s choice.
