Alma F. Emig, age 95 of Country Club Retirement Center at Dover and formerly of the York Township area of New Philadelphia died Wednesday, October 21, 2009.A daughter of the late J. Sherman and Ethel (McConnell) Struchen, Alma was born on June 29, 1914, at Bergholz, Ohio.On December 1, 1945, Alma married Floyd Emig and together the couple reared two children.During World War II, Alma supported the war effort by working as a volunteer at the Dennison Depot Canteen which supplied meals and gifts to soldiers as they passed through the train depot.For a number of years, Alma worked as a Postal Clerk in the Gnadenhutten Post Office. She held a longtime membership with Jerusalem Church; where for a number of years she took a leadership role as part of the kitchen committee. In addition to her activities at church, Alma was a longtime supporter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, AARP, as well as the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens, and York Township Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.Alma loved to travel and more in particular enjoyed trips with her husband and family to enjoy the ocean sights of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.Alma leaves behind her family which includes a daughter, Betty (Donald) Ridgway of Gnadenhutten and a son, John (Vicki) Emig of Kent.Three granddaughters, Brenda Parrish of Gnadenhutten, Barbara (Michael) Watson of Fresno, Ohio, Tiffani Emig of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a grandson, Aaron Emig of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; a great-grandson, Jason (Brenda) Parrish of Grandy, North Carolina and two great-great grandchildren, Braxtan and Delainey Parrish complete the family.In addition to her parents, Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, on March 17, 2003; two brothers, Ira “Spatsie” Struchen and John “Jack” Struchen.The family will receive friends on Friday, October 23, 2009, from 5:00 Â? 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The family will also greet guests one hour prior to service on Saturday, October 24, 2009, from 10:00 Â? 11:00 AM in Jerusalem Church. Reverend Dr. Terry Downin, will lead a service celebrating Alma’s life in the church sanctuary at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Jerusalem Church Cemetery. Following services the family would like to invite guests to join them in the church social hall where a meal and fellowship will be shared.Those unable to attend may send the family personal condolences by signing the online guest registry located on the funeral home’s website.The family requests that memorial contributions in Alma’s name be made to the Jerusalem Church Memorial Fund, 1417 Stonecreek Road SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
