Alice Lenora McMillen, 79, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, June 23, 2014 in Union Hospital at Dover following a recent illness.
A daughter of the late Ora and Hazel (Cox) Rose, Alice was born April 10, 1935 at Deersville, Ohio.
Alice graduated from Freeport High School in 1953. Then on July 31, 1953, she married the love of her life, Kenneth McMillen and together the couple raised two children, Jerry and Pat. Also, Alice and Ken were the proud owners and operators of McMillen’s General Store at Deersville.
She was an active member of Broadway United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia where she served as the president of her Sunday School class. Alice was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Alice and Ken enjoyed wintering the past few years in Winter Haven, Florida and she also enjoyed cooking. Most of all, she cherished her family and the time spent with them.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ken McMillen; her children, Jerry McMillen of Dover and Pat (Paul) Wells of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Nick (Abby) McMillen of New Philadelphia, Erica (Adam) Miller of Massillon, Zach McMillen of Dover, Chad (Shawna) Wells and Brian (Tamra) Wells both of New Philadelphia; her great grandchildren, Morgan McMillen, Brandt, Reid, Aubrie and Katelyn Wells and Easton Miller; two brothers, Rev. Allen (Beverly) Rose of Mansfield and Donald Rose of Cadiz and a sister, Kay Mizer of Barnhill.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, a great grandson, Connor Wells and a sister, Dorothy Huston.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Alice’s life will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Bob Kuntz officiating. Burial will follow in Patterson Union Cemetery at Deersville. A luncheon will be held in the fellowship hall at Broadway United Methodist Church following the committal service.
