Alice E. Mitchell

Alice E. Mitchell, 72, of New Philadelphia passed away peacefully on February 14, 2018, in Bowerston Hills Nursing Home.

Born in Dover on July 25, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Gilson Leroy and Bessie Agnes (McDonald) Mitchell.

After graduating from New Philadelphia High School, Alice worked for Goshen Dairy for many years. Then, she was employed for 34 years in the housekeeping department at Union Hospital. She was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Tuscarawas County Senior Center.

Alice is survived by her sister, Katherine “Kay” Ernest of Irving, TX; her brothers, Ronald Mitchell of Sherrodsville and Steven L. Mitchell of Tonawanda, NY; her sister-in-law, Diane (Dennis) Fowler of Sherrodsville; nieces and nephews, Leslie (Robert) Horsman and Maureen (James) Baxter, both of Texas, Laura Renicker of Dellroy, Amanda Mitchell of Bowerston, Jennifer (Michael) Booth of Sherrodsville and Dennis (Alyssa) Mitchell of Sherrodsville. Numerous great-nieces and great-nephews complete Alice’s family.

In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in passing by a nephew, James “Jamie” Mitchell; her brother, Albert Mitchell; her brother-in-law, Jerry Ernest; and her sister-in-law, Shirley J. Mitchell.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. with a service beginning at 3 p.m. A reception will immediately follow the service in the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home. A private burial of her cremated remains will be held at a later date in Union Cemetery at Uhrichsville.
