Alice E. Luikart, age 90, of New Philadelphia, entered her heavenly reward early Monday morning, January, 16, 2012 in her home following a brief illness.Born at Coshocton, June 13, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Jacob Henry and Zelpha Myrtle Zaugg Bechtol. She attended Hardridge Elementary School and went on to Clark High School with the class of 1939.Alice met and married Ralph Luikart after high school. The couple wed March 13, 1942, and set out on a life of adventure, residing in places near and far â?? including Alaska where Alice hunted big game animals and worked side by side with Ralph building several homes and churches. With Ralph working days building the docks, Alice would spend the day working on building a home. A popular thought was that Alice was building the house by herself, because she worked all day long on the project â?? and Ralph only in the evenings when he got home from the docks. Hence â?? passersby would only see Alice. Returning to Ohio, they purchased a farm near her childhood home outside of Clark, Ohio. This was a life-changing move as they began a dairy farm at the age of 40, and soon announced the birth of twin sons on Christmas Day after 20 years of marriage. She was most proud to have worked side by side with her two sons on the farm and later in their respective businesses. From landscaping, to sewing and cooking there wasn’t much Alice couldn’t and wouldn’t do. Her energy, talent, and stamina are legendary. Her spirit lives on in her sons: Mark G. and his wife Brenda (Fenton) Luikart and Scott D. and his wife Jenifer (Hicks) Luikart, all of New Philadelphia. Two grandsons, Kyle Luikart of Tuscarawas, and Eric Luikart of New Philadelphia, a sister, Irene and her husband Don Strouse of Wooster and two nieces, Anne Wren of Virginia, and Amy Strouse of Georgia, also survive. A sister, Ellen Lowe, and a brother, James Bechtol both of Clark, precede her in death. Her close friend, Carol Craft, and her family of associates at Mark’s Place Salon | Spa will miss her daily presence: serving lunch to spa guests, making robes and sheets, reupholstering the furniture, making meals for the team, baking incessantly, growing beautiful flowers outside, doing endless laundry and mending, and lovingly serving as a surrogate mother or grandmother to many staff members. Alice never tired or retired, she even crocheted a baby afghan for an expectant mother in the final weeks of her life. Alice made life better for all of those who were lucky to know her as a friend, neighbor and coworker. Her husband Ralph, who resides at New Dawn Health Care at Dover, completes her family.Cremation is planned with inurnment in Keene Methodist Cemetery at Coshocton County. There will be no calling hours or public service. The Luikart family requests that memorial contributions be made to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street Dover OH 44622
