Alice A. Jones, age 69, of Park Village at Dover, died Sunday, February 8, 2009, in Union Hospital at Dover following a lengthy illness.Born at Layland, West Virginia, October 11, 1939, Alice was a daughter to the late Arby and Alice (Taylor) Hizer.A 1957 graduate of Uhrichsville High School, Alice soon married James L. Jones and together the couple reared four children.For many years in addition to her duties at home, Alice worked for Zimmer Health Care at Dover. Following retirement, she and James relocated to Mesa, Arizona where Alice enjoyed relaxing outdoors and tending to the fruit trees that surrounded their home.Additionally, Alice enjoyed golfing, and bowling as well as cooking and sewing.She is survived by four children, Mike Jones of New Philadelphia, Tim Jones of Mesa, Arizona, Sherry Colburn also of Mesa, Arizona, and Sandy (Randy) Grewell of Uhrichsville; three sisters, Delores Morton of South Carolina, Phyllis (Joe) Verhovec of New Philadelphia, and Sue Hizer also of New Philadelphia.Four grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband, James who passed away October 1, 2004; and two brothers, Arby “Buck” Hizer and Jim Hizer.The family will receive friends in the Chapel of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, February 12, 2009, from 9:30 â?? 10:30 AM. Reverend Hugh B. Berry will lead a memorial service celebrating Alice’s life beginning at 10:30 AM. The family would like to invite guests to join them in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home, following the service for a time of food and fellowship. Inurnment in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia is planned.Memorial contributions in Alice’s name may be sent to Cure PSP, Executive Plaza III, 11350 McCormick Road, Suite 906, Hunt Valley, MD 21031; an organization that has been setup to research and cure Progressive supranuculear palsy, a disease that afflicted Alice much of her final years.
