Alfreda A. Zadra, 88, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully in New Dawn Rehabilitation Center in Dover, on April 19, 2004.Born in Portsmouth, Ohio on May 22, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Alfred S. and Ruth N. (Roy) Davisson.Together with her husband, the late Martin Patrick McDonough who passed away in 1964, she raised three children. Then, she was educated at the Tri-County School of Nursing and received her certification in 1968. After working for Altman Hospital for more than 15 years, Alfreda participated in the Foster Grandparent Program in Tuscarawas County. She was also a member of Sacred Heart Church and a past member of their Altar Society.Alfreda is survived by her children, Ellen (Tom) Fenton of New Philadelphia, Jean (Roy) Smith of Marblehead, Ohio, and James (Luana) McDonough of Kamuela, Hawaii; a step-daughter, JoAnn of Dayton, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; and 2 sisters and 1 brother.In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her second husband, Sivio Zadra in 1990, two sisters, one brother, one grandson, one granddaughter, and one step-daughter.Friends may call on Thursday, April 22, 2004 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. A funeral mass will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Sacred Hearth Church with Msgr. George J. Schlegel officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia. Friends are invited to the Geib Family Center where a meal will be served following the committal service.The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to either the Foster Grandparent Program or the Area Agency on Aging.
