Alfred Williams

Alfred Gene Williams, 89, of Dover, died Thursday, April 19, 2018 in Park Village Health Care at Dover following a period of declining health.

A son of the late Alfred Richard and Lodema Odesa (Grimm) Williams, Alfred was born January 6, 1929 at Dover, Ohio.

Alfred graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1947. On August 29, 1950, he enlisted with the United States Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. Alfred honorably served his country until receiving his discharge on June 30, 1954.

He was a longtime employee of Gradall where he worked as a welder for 36 years. Alfred attended Dover Bible Church and was a member of the former Senior Friends and AARP. He loved the outdoors and nature and especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren on nature hikes.

He is survived by his wife, Reah Jane (Torgler) Williams; his children, Dianna Sue (Ron) Lowery of Dover and Michael Williams of New Philadelphia; two step children, Michelle (Mike) Sugalski of Uhrichsville and Matt (Judie) Fox of Dover; his grandchildren, Derek Lowery, Devan (companion, Michael) Lowery, Nate (companion, Yana) Williams, Dawnielle (Justin) Miller, Marcy Kas, Amber (Anthony) Roberson, Dakota Fox, Jackie (Mike) Prieto, Michael Sugalski, Brian Beaber and Sarah Beaber; his great-grandchildren, Caleb and Aubrie Garmony, Cameron Roberson, Addison Beaber and Kail Marshall; and two sisters, Janet (Max) Immel of Dover and Carol “Petie” Legget of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Shirley (Neff) Williams; a sister and brother-in-law, Lodema “Coleen” and Bill Eberle; and a brother-in-law, Dave Leggett.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 from 10 to 11 AM in Dover Bible Church. A funeral service celebrating Alfred’s life will follow at 11 AM in the church with Pastor Mark Britton officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Dover Burial Park.
