Alberta M. Stein

Alberta M. Stein, 81, Dover, died Thursday, October 2, 2003, at Park Village.Born in Auburn Township on November 28, 1921, she was one of ten children of the late Edwin and Elizabeth Berger Ladrach, and was a l939 graduate of Ragersville High School, and a l942 graduate of the University of Cincinnati School of Nursing.She married Robert L. Stein on October 16, l942, and with him celebrated 61 years of marriage before his death in April of this year. The couple had received and had their names inscribed on the Ladrach Family Heirloom Cane at their 50th anniversary celebration in l992. The cane, a family heirloom, signified that they were the 23rd couple who, as direct descendants of Gottlieb and Magdeletta Zimmerman Ladrach, had achieved 50 years of marriage. A member of First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia, Alberta was a member and volunteer at the Tuscarawas County YMCA and was a past president of the New Philadelphia Elks Social Club. An active genealogist, she was also a member of the Tuscarawas County Genealogical Society and had published a book, The Family of Gottlieb and Magdelena Zimmerman Ladrach. She was active in organizing and perpetuating the Ladrach reunion in Ragersville, and published an annual family newsletter. Alberta had served as a registered nurse at Union Hospital and for 21 years in the offices of the late C.M. Dougherty M.D. and Jose L. Penelli M.D. in New Philadelphia before her retirement in l984. She is survived by sons, Robert L. (Karen) Stein II of Dover, Jay (Reenie) Stein of New Philadelphia, Ray (Beth) Stein of Tallmadge, and Kevin (Saundra) Stein of Columbia, SC; and grandchildren, Mark, Matt, and T.J. Stein, Eric and Neil Stein, Aime and Katie Stein, and Kayla, Kassie, and Michael Stein.She was preceded in death by her father and mother, her husband, and nine brothers and sisters, Sterling, Russell, Adelbert, and Eugene Ladrach, Dorothy Schneider, Irene Ladrach, Carrie Ladrach, Florence Ladrach and Earl Ladrach.Services will be Monday, October 6, 2003 at 10:30 am at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ed Morrison of the Ragersville Zion United Church of Christ officiating. She will be buried alongside her husband at Ragersville Cemetery in Ragersville. A reception at the church will follow the committal. Friends may call at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Sunday afternoon from 1:30 to 4:30 pm. To honor Alberta’s life, the family requests that contributions be made to the Tuscarawas County YMCA, 600 Monroe Avenue, Dover, OH 44622.
