Alberta Mahaffey Cox, age 83, of New Philadelphia, went to be with the Lord Saturday afternoon, November 6, 2010, from Union Hospital at Dover, following a period of declining health. Born at Mill Township, Tuscarawas County, January 23, 1927, she was a daughter of the late John and Hazel Meldrum Mahaffey. Also preceding Alberta in death is her husband, John “Bill” Cox, her three sons; Roger, Barry and John Porcher, her three brothers; Walter, Reymond and Ernest Mahaffey, and two sisters; Bernice Lineberger and Betty Ford. Alberta was a member of the Faith Christian Church, VFW Post #1445 and the former Moose lodge, all of New Philadelphia. She’ll be remembered for her love of playing bingo, and as an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians. Survivors include her daughter, Hazel Daley of New Philadelphia, and her three grandchildren; Brian Cole of Port Washington, Katie Porcher and Becky (husband, Alan) Ren, both of Dover. Family and friends are invited to gather for a graveside committal service Tuesday morning at 11 AM in Calvary Cemetery, New Philadelphia. Following the committal service, a reception will be given in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the New Philadelphia funeral home.
