Albert T. (Torelo Michallis) Massarelli of Dover, age 86, died unexpectedly Friday afternoon, January 2, 2004 at Union Hospital. Al was born in New Philadelphia on September 11, 1917, a son to the late Stanislau “Stanley” and Angelina Spera Massarelli. He attended New Philadelphia High School. On March 3, 1941, Al married the former Florence Kathryn Fisher, who preceded him in death on September 5, 1977. During World War II, he served honorably with the U. S. Navy, from 1944 to 1946. For many years, Al owned and operated the “Acme Window Cleaning Company and Janitor Supply Store” on Front Street in New Philadelphia and on the Boulevard in Dover. Later, he and Flo owned and operated “Al & Flo’s Antique & Gift Shop” until her death.Al was very active in his community. A member of St. Joseph Church in Dover, he and Flo were former members of Sacred Heart Church when they lived in New Philadelphia. He was a member of the Dover Elks’ Lodge, Loyal Order of Moose in Dover, the Dover VFW, the American Legion and the Dover Lions Club. Additionally, he belonged to the Tuscarawas County Central Catholic Booster Club. For several years, Al was a member of the Certified Beverage championship winning Men’s Bocce League team through the Dover Parks department.Al is survived by his son, Jerry M. Massarelli, of Dover; two granddaughters, Lori (Roland) Zontini and Kimberly Walton, both of New Philadelphia; four great-grandchildren, Ashley Marie Diano, Joshua I. and Brittany N. Walton and Nicci Lynn Zontini; two brothers, Dominic (Adeline) Massarelli of Park Ridge, IL and Stanley (Ruby) Massarelli of New Philadelphia; one sister, Lucille (Lee) Engmark of McHenry, IL; and former daughter-in-law, Shirley Massarelli, of Dover. In addition to his wife and parents, Al was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Michael Massarelli; three brothers, Victor, Carl and Nick Massarelli; and two sisters, Virginia Stuber and Connie Massarelli.Calling hours will be in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home on Monday, January 5, 2004 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a Christian Wake at 7:30 PM. The funeral mass will be Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Church in Dover. Following the mass, burial alongside his wife Flo will take place at Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia.
