Albert L. Cercone, age 79, formerly of Steele Hill Road, New Philadelphia passed away early Sunday evening, June 20, 2010, in the home of his daughter, Barb, surrounded by his loving daughters after a lengthy illness.Albert was born August 23, 1930, at New Philadelphia, a son of the late Donald and Beatrice Pompey-Cercone.He served his country in the United States Army from August 17, 1948 to May 16, 1952. For his service, Albert received the Army Occupation Medal, the Korean Service Medal with Six Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.On February 6, 1954, Albert married the late Twila Jean Wallace. Albert and Twila had a special love that only comes along once in a lifetime. They enjoyed holding hands and walking on the beach together. Their greatest enjoyments were spending time with their daughters and grandchildren, and traveling in their motor home.For 40 years, Albert was the owner and operator of Twin City Body.Albert leaves behind four daughters, Cathy Conner of Jacksonville, Florida, Pamela (Jim) May of Bolivar, Barb Cercone of New Philadelphia, and Donna (David) Furbay of Dover; a sister, Dorothy Coutts, and his sister-in-law, Ellie Rohrig. Seven Grandchildren, James (Tacy) May, Gabe Taylor, Chris (Rachelle) Conner, Nicholas (Sami) Conner, David Furbay Jr., Domonic Furbay, and Twila Jean Furbay; four great-grandchildren, Mackenzie May, Emilee Cercone, and Zachary and Zander Taylor; his lifelong friends Ed Norman and Ed Shott, Jr. as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who complete the family.Additionally, Albert will be greatly missed by his chow dog, Bear. In addition to his parents and his wife, Twila Jean, Albert was preceded in death by a special grandson, Chad Michael Cercone.The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, from 4:00 â?? 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:45 PM. Monsignor George J. Schlegel will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Philadelphia, OH. Burial in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia will follow with military honors provided by members of the Carl C. Stoller Post #1445 of the New Philadelphia VFW.Following services the family wishes to invite guests to join them in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the New Philadelphia funeral home, where a meal and fellowship will be shared.The family would like to send a special thank you to the wonderful staff of Hospice of Tuscarawas County for all their care and support. In doing so, they request that memorial contributions in Albert’s name be directed to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W Third Street, Dover, Ohio 44622.
