Adrian Anthony Wisintainer, 81, of New Philadelphia, formerly of Midvale, died unexpectedly in his home Tuesday morning. Born in Barnhill on New Year’s Eve, 1921, he was a son of the late Emmanuel and Elizabeth Boggiani Wisintainer. Adrian graduated from Midvale High School before entering the United States Navy. On December 7, 1941, he was aboard the USS Honolulu in Pearl Harbor, HI, when the Japanese attacked.Electrician’s Mate First Class Wisintainer survived without injury, although his ship sustained damage to her hull, it made it out of the harbor without additional incident. In all, Adrian served six years and one day in the Navy, earning the Victory Medal, the American Defense Service Ribbon, the American Area Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. A year after his discharge on July 20, 1947, he married the former Frances M. DeLuca. Together they raised a family in Midvale that includes two daughters, Mary R. Fantine of Lancaster, OH, and Adrie Ann Tolloti of New Philadelphia. After forty-four years of marriage, Frances preceded Adrian in death on March 18, 1992.Adrian will be sadly missed by his seven grandchildren, especially Mike Tolloti, and Pete, Jeff and James Fantine; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Wisintainer of Dover, Rose (Ed) Sanner of Pittsburgh, PA, and Patricia (Frank) Buss of New Philadelphia; and a brother, Larry (Evie) Wisintainer of DoverIn addition to his parents and wife, his stepson, Allan Joe Visintainer, a sister Emma Ammiller, and brothers Reynold and Teddy, preceded him in death. Friends may call Thursday, October 9, from 5 until 8PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia, where Christian Wake Services will begin at 7:30PM. Father Ed Keck will celebrate Mass Friday at 10:00 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Philadelphia. Military graveside services conducted by his fellow members of the Dover VFW Post # 3463, will follow at Calvary Cemetery, New Philadelphia.
