Adelaide Grace Sweaney, 90, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, November 27, 2018 in Amberwood Manor at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late Phillip and Wanda (Septer) Groff, Adelaide was born January 14, 1928 at Dover, Ohio.
Adelaide graduated from Dover High School in 1946. On April 20, 1946, she married Dale E. Sweaney and they raised four daughters. The couple shared 58 years of marriage prior to Dale’s passing on September 15, 2004.
She was a longtime member of Zoarville Christian Chapel where she taught Sunday school for many years. Adelaide was active with the Resident Council Committee at Amberwood Manor and she enjoyed reading, writing letters, embroidery and completing puzzles. She will be remembered by her daughters for being a wonderful mom.
She is survived by her daughters, Alexis (Leonard) Boley of Carrollton, Deanna Sweaney of New Philadelphia, Tracy Meese of Dover and Georgia Sweaney of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Jean Roberts; and a niece, Judy Roberts.
Adelaide was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Lucille; a son-in-law, Michael Meese; and Georgia’s fiancé, David Eckert.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2018 from 10 to 11 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Adelaide’s life will follow at 11 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Alan Christner officiating. Entombment will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover.
