Adam Abraham Fishel, 90, of New Philadelphia, passed away Thursday evening, May 20, 2004 in Union Hospital at Dover.Born April 29, 1914 in New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late James O. and Ethel N. (Stermer) Fishel.After graduation from New Philadelphia High School, Adam continued his education pursuing a degree in field engineering which eventually led him to owning and operating his company, the former Field Service of Air Moving Equipment Company. His vibrant and unique personality will not be forgotten by those who knew him. Many area residents will remember Adam as the man who owned and drove the Model T and Model A Ford cars in local parades. In addition to his passion for old cars, Adam enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the Antique Car Club of America, Sacred Heart Church, a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, and was a former member of the Barbershop Quartet and Toastmasters.On September 28, 1940, Adam married his beloved wife, the former Esther E. Endres. Together, they raised seven children, all of whom will miss him dearly. His children include Rebecca (Dale) Schelling of Troy, Ohio, Mary Kay (Les) Marjay of Massillon, Lois Antonelli of Dover, Florence (Paul) Melda of Jasper, Georgia, Ellen Marie Fishel of Fort Myers, Florida, Michael (Glender) Fishel of Sacramento, California, and Thomas (Nathalie) Fishel of Shawville, Ontario. He is also survived by his brother, James Fishel of New Philadelphia; two sisters, Martha (Robert) Haeberle of New Philadelphia and Mary Cummings of South Bend, Indiana; a sister-in-law, Helen Fishel of Bradenton, Florida; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.In addition to his parents, Adam was preceded in death by a brother, John, and a granddaughter, Mary Ellen.Visitation will be held Sunday, May 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in New Philadelphia on Monday, May 24 beginning at 10:30 a.m. The committal service will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia. Friends are invited to St. Ambrose Hall after the burial where a luncheon will be held.
