Ada Alice Rankin Galbraith, age 95, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully early Saturday afternoon, July 17, 2004 in New Dawn Health Care Center of Dover. Born in Port Washington, O. October 23, 1908, she was a daughter of the late Commodore and Josephine Butler Rankin. She graduated as valedictorian from Gnadenhutten High School with the class of 1926. Ada grew up as a person of faith in the Uhrichsville Christian Church, and has been a longtime, active member of the First Christian Church of New Philadelphia, where she was involved in the Come Join Us Sunday School Class, the Christian Missionary Guild, and prayer groups. She was a loving devoted mother, raising a daughter; Melba Jo Galbraith of New Philadelphia, and a son, Lynne (wife Charleen) Galbraith of Jacksonville, Florida. Ada is the grandmother of Elaine (husband Lynn) Orr of Marco Island Fla., Jon (wife Sherry) Galbraith of Jacksonville, Fla., a step-grandmother to Kevin (Monica) Godwin of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jim (wife Tiffany) of Ocoee, Fla., a great-grandmother to Lauren and Jennifer Orr, and Peyton and Austin Galbraith; a step great-grandmother to Christopher and Nicole Godwin, and an aunt to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.In addition to her parents, two brothers; Robert and David Rankin, precede Ada in death. Pastor Jim Borton will officiate Mrs. Galbraith’s funeral Thursday morning at 10:30 in the sanctuary of First Christian Church, 104 Third Street NW in New Philadelphia, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. Following the committal service, members of the church will host a reception for family and friends in the church fellowship hall. Memorial contributions may be made in Ada’s memory to the First Christian Church, P.O. Box 474, New Philadelphia, OH 44663. In the end, Ada will be remembered as a person who promoted the peace of God to all those she knew. She enjoyed writing, and in 1982 penned a poem titled “Homecoming” that will be shared at her service. The final line reads:I’m anxiously waiting to see His arms outstretched, Beckoning me and whispering; “Come My Child,Come Home, And Be Blessed”Amen
