A. June Burkholder, age 81, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully early Wednesday morning, June 15, 2005 in Amberwood Residence at New Philadelphia. Born at Ragersville, June 23, 1923, she was the last surviving daughter of the late Simon and Clara Lentz Wasem.June was a devoted member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia where she was known as “The Kitchen Lady”. She was active in organizing church meals and volunteering in the kitchen for various events. June was a member of Lutheran Church Women and the Ragersville Historical Society. In July 1943, June married the late Floyd Burkholder and together spent more than six decades together until his death March 21 of this year. June will be missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Brad Smith of Dover, sons and daughters-in-law; Gary and Nancy Burkholder of Dover, and Ted and Shirley Burkholder of Canton; grandchildren, William (Connie) Burkholder, Mark (Jessica) Burkholder, Steve (Natalie) Burkholder, Tricia (Brad) Henderson, and Brad Smith; great-grandchildren, Megan Vermeire-Burkholder, Corinna Burkholder, Libby and Tate Burkholder, Hannah and Caleb Burkholder, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, June was preceded in death by two sisters, Phoebe Prosser and Helen Snyder; three brothers, Charles T. Wasem, Hugo E. Wasem and Simon T. Wasem. Friends are invited to call Thursday, June 16, 2005 from 5-7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor John Wanamaker will lead June’s funeral ceremony Friday morning at 10:30 in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial, alongside her husband, will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. Following the committal service, a reception will be given in the fellowship hall at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Worship Fund at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 202 East High Avenue, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
