A. Eugene Raber, 87, of 307 N. Broadway, Sugarcreek, died Sunday, April 4, 2003 in Hennis Care Center at Dover following a four month illness.Born December 27, 1915 in Sugarcreek, he was a son of the late Ernest and Tracie Yoder Raber.Mr. Raber was a teacher in one room schools in holmes County from 1935 to 1940 then was a farmer for many years. He then retired in 1980 from the US Postal Service. He was also a clerk at the Farmerstown and Kidron Livestock Auction for over 25 years. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church at Sugarcreek.He was preceded in death by his wife the former Verna L. Kamp, on November 17, 2000, and a brother, Blaine Raber.Suviving include two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Sandy) Wingard of Goshen, Indiana, and Mrs. James (Bonnie) Wickes of Alaska; three sons, Robert (Linda) Raber of New Philadelphia, Ron (Baerbel) Raber of Denver, Colorado, and Tom (Marla) Raber of Livermore, California; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ernie (Mary) Raber of Sugarcreek; one sister, Mrs. Dwayne (Gladys) Nelson of Boulder, Colorado.Services will be held Thursday, May 8, 2003 at 11 AM in the First Mennonite Church at Sugarcreek. Rev. Kevin Farmwald will officiate and burial will follow in Union Hill Cemetery at Sugarcreek. Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM in the First Mennonite Church. Smith-Geib Funeral Home in Sugarcreek is handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Mennonite Church.
